Victims’ Names
The issue of verification of the names of victims was a highly important one. In many sources, particularly memoirs and witness accounts, names and surnames of the inmates could have been spelled differently, based on what people heard or remembered. The decision was made to use the versions, that would most likely help to find additional information on these people in the archives. As the basic source for verification was used a comprehensive research and listing, prepared and published in 2003:
Buch der Erinnerung : die ins Baltikum deportierten deutschen, österreichischen und tschechoslowakischen Juden = Book of remembrance : the German, Austrian and Czechoslovakian Jews deported to the Baltic States / bearbeitet von Wolfgang Scheffler und Diana Schulle ; hrsg. vom "Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V." und dem "Riga-Komitee der deutschen Städte" gemeinsam mit der Stiftung "Neue Synagoge Berlin-Centrum Judaicum" und der Gedenkstätte "Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz". München : K.G. Saur, 2003.
