Memorial Development
Develop a memorial concept and design for The Victims of the Jungfernhof Concentration Camp in Riga. Lead artist Karen Frostig will partner with architectural firm for fabrication and installation. Research for memorial includes preparatory work, ie. creating international partnerships, securing permits, community interviews and presentations, building an advisory committee, and producing a blueprint for memorial development.
Exhibition
Presentation of the Locker of Memory project, highlighting art, history, science, photography, video, two Mourning Shrouds, and the plan for memorial development. Emphasis will be on social justice and interactive methodologies of remembrance.
Mourning Shroud
Finish embroidery on first Mourning Shroud for groundbreaking ceremony at Jungfernhof. Create template for second Mourning Shroud developed in response to the question: “What does it mean to be human?” referencing the history of eugenics first established at the Fernald School and used by Hitler, in his genocidal campaign to murder “feeble-minded” children and adults exhibiting disabilities.
Documentary film
Short film representing different aspects of this multimedia, multi-faceted project. The human story of loss, grief, and identity will dominate a narrative about truth and healing.
Book publication
Family Business presenting Dr, Frostig’s noteworthy career as an art activist and memorial artist dealing with Holocaust history and legacy in the US, Austria, and Latvia.
