On July 4, 2024, a formal presentation will take place at the former site of the Jungfernhof concentration camp, located within the Mazjumpravas Muizas Park. A special commemorative ceremony will occur at the park, which we hope will serve as a prologue to creating a permanent memorial at this unremembered site. The program will feature a large-scale “Mourning Shroud for 800 Souls” draped across the area containing the recovered mass grave. The ceremony dedicated to remembering 3985 victims imprisoned at the camp, will be designed to sanctify the land in preparation for memorial development. Four metallic stakes with engraved data detailing the four transports will be inserted into the ground, defining the parameter of the gravesite. The gathering will include Latvian officials; descendants and survivors; the Latvian Jewish community; Dignitaries and Ambassadors from Germany, Austria, the US and Israel; the Latvian Council of Jewish Communities; the German Riga committee, representatives of German and Austrian municipalities; historians; scholars; students; Latvian community members; and other interested parties.
